In 2009, Cabot District launched a fund to help groups and Explorer Units provide adventures for our members. Grants are available for : · Buying in activities from external suppliers · Training adults to lead activities · Buying or hiring equipment for activities · Supporting costs for activities, e.g. transport, accommodation etc. The conditions for grants are as follows : · Each group, and the Explorer section as a whole, may apply for a grant or grants totalling up to £500 per calendar year. · The activities provided must be adventurous in nature. This is a fairly broad definition, since a Beaver and an Explorer will (might!) have very different ideas of what is adventurous, but a good starting point is factsheets 120084 and 120086, which set out lists of activities. · The activity must be either new to the section / group concerned, or taking an existing activity to a new or different level, so the grant is providing new opportunities, not subsidising existing ones · The grant must provide activities which are open to most or all members of the section or group applying, not just one or two individuals. To apply, just fill in the simple application form, either on paper or electronically, and send it to the DC. Applications will be decided by the DC and District Chair together, and you’ll get a response (and hopefully a cheque!) quickly.
